Does anyone know off hand the size/thread of the studs holding the clutch cover to the engine/gearbox? The gearbox ones look courser than the engine ones.

yes they are courser,

generaly the threads into alluminium are UNC and into steel/iron UNF although there are a few exceptions.

the threads you are looking at are 5/16 x 18 tpi
