afrter weighing up the prices of different bespoke brake setup, ive been thinking about getting one of these as an early xmas present to myself

anyone using this?

as they have a range of differing front/rear bias, will the std rear drum cylinders be ok for this? or do i need different ones?

running alloy 4 pots up front (if it matters)

alos do they include and fittings? what threads will the master cylinders be so I can get some banjos

Cheers

Joe

Master cylinders usually either M10x1 or 3/8UNF, both sizes common TBH.

A lot depends on weight of car _ I had to fit different size rear cylinders and a bias device to stop the rear from locking up.
I was using biggest cylinder available at time on rear 3/4 but i believ you can get 1" now which would have cured issue without bias lever as well.

it will be fairly lightweight, its a rally car so fully stripped, glass front end, carbon bootfloor/lid etc. has full cage and extinguishers though, so prob put back as much as that takes away, maybe more.

can kad supply whatever master cylinders you request? or do they supply 'x' and its down to you experiment?

scruffy, surley you needed a smaller diameter rear cylyinder?
Brake line pressure x piston area = force at piton face.
less piston area gives less force

He is talking about the master cylinder. For the same pedal force a larger cylinder will make less pressure to the circuit. force/piston area = pressure. same force, and he wants less pressure, so area has to be larger

miniminor, I read it as rear cylinders (plural), you are exactly right if he did mean the master cylinder.

yep, was on about master cylinders, do you specify what sizes you want when you order?

regarding the rear drum cylinders though, could these not be tweaked/downsized to limit the rear bite?

Just spoke to Colin and ordered it

V. nice chap, he has posted this reply to my questions on the Kad forum:

Hi Joe,

For 4 pots and drums we supply 5/8" front and 13/16" rear which works out quite well.

13/16" is the largest size of integral reservoir master cylinder available.

Should you need to go bigger at the rear, i.e. for less rear brake effort on a lightweight competition car with less weight at the rear for brake adhesion, then the larger 7/8 and 1" master cylinders would need to have remote reservoirs with the attendant problems of mounting these high enough to gravity feed the master cylinders.

Bias via the balance bar is the fine tuning, coarse adjustment should be made with master cylinder size. It is worth also remembering that smaller rear wheel cylinder sizes will reduce rear brake effort.

The in car adjuster is availabel as an extra as the regulations in some formulas do not allow in car adjustment. The part number is 1012282 for this.

The 5/8 front cylinder has a 3/8 UNF thread so that is pretty standard, the 13/16 has an odd size and we supply an adaptor for this.

Since you ask so nicely I will get one or two put up on Ebay at a favourable price!

Arrived today, will fit it at weekend, which means all thats left is the wiring, been putting it off forever...

Slightly surprised at the bill, I honestly thought the master cylinders were included in the price, and it doesnt say anything on the website, so there was an extra £100 that i hadnt budgeted for :(

Hi mate, Did you get the chance to fit this? I have one that I have lost the instructions for :) and if you could post any close up pics and tips I would appreciate it. I cant seem to get the bar balanced, in fact I am not sure if it is even supposed to be. I just emailled KAD but anything you can show would be great. Thanks

Excellent thanks!

When you press the pedal do the pushrods on the cylinders move equally when you have it set like that or does the front seem to move more than the rear. I cocked about with my setup without really thinking and am trying to get it back to the initial settings. Your pics help a lot. Thanks again

Warwick.

do you have the adjustable twist screw thing that mounts on the dash?

also i found today i had a problem with my bias box, the lever was binding my clutch master cylinder holding the brakes on, do you have alot of clearence with the plastic cylinder?

David.

yeah, got the on dash adjuster, havent messed with it yet, but it looks like its got enough room for quite a bit of adjustment, if its fouling when fully adjusted, try swapping the master cylinders form side to side so the balance bar protrudes out the other way?

Apologies about the wibble pics, my sister stole the scanner when she moved to London:

I dont envy you, reading that makes me feel weel pissed.

For reference, the thread on the girling 13/16" m/c with integral reservoirs is 7/16" with 24tpi
