Hey all,

now i know a few of you are great photographers, so i was wondering if you could help.
Im looking at buying a digital slr:
Were ive got is i want either cannon eos 400d or nikon d40x,
with two lens 18-55mm that come with the cameras and 18 - 200mm something like a sigma.

If i can find one cheap enought though i think id like the nikon d80 the 18 - 135mm lens i think it is.

I go to alot of rally's and snowboarding alot so thats wheres its most likely to get its use.

Can any of you suggest some cheap shops? and also what you think of my selection

thanks martin

Proven 200+bhp & Avon Park 05,06,07 Class D 3rd place

Well both cameras are very similar as you know, I think looking at it I'd go for the Nikon, I have a D2Xs and it a super piece of kit, along with a fuji and thats a Nikon Fitment.

But to be honest both will do a super job.

I have the 400d with the 17-85IS lens. It's way cool *wink*

For sports I would buy a fast lens with IS if possible. Guessing that the 18-55 is the kitlens? I have the 55-200 kitlens and it sucks beyond belief

The boring bloke who runs this place.

Berkshire

350D with a 75-300mm IS canon lens here - love it, altho the actual camera is a bit tiny.

I really want a 5d - but have no spare cash atm.

Get the D80 if you can run to it - super bit of kit!

I also have the canon 350D. Excellent piece of kit. From what I have read the 400d although better on paper is a bit of a pain to use. I doubt you will be issapointed with either the Nikon or the Canon.

i used to own a canon350d, brilliant camera i enjoyed every second of using it, now ive moved on a little bit to the 400d, id say for rally a 18-55mm lens would be perfect however for tracks you need something with a little more flexibility on it probably a 70-200. the best zoom lens canon do in my opinion. id advise a decent tripod also.

oh and if you get to buying any filters dont bother with jessops hoya are the ones to go for. although jessops filters are very well constructed.

im not really biast as i use the nikon D40 the D50 and the 400D on a daily basis. i personally like the canon better, however there all good bits of kits. i advise the canon you wont regret it.
