Have been flat out working on the mini for NIMW, however after fitting a new verto clutch and bolting everything back in and bleeding the clutch, it feels as hard as a rock with very little travel.

When the car has just been started, pushing in the clutch seems to stall it! Could this be the 2 big nuts on the end of the clutch cover, its a new cover and I think these may be too tight?

Sounds like the clutch is adjusted wrongly, especially if it stalling the engine, you will need to set the nuts on the end of the "wok".

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

loosen them both off then wind the one in nearest the housing to leave a 6mm gap. then lock it up with the back nut.

I can't see thoes nuts being to tight would cause the engine to stop.

Dodgy release bearing maybe?

Loosened the nuts off to 6.25 mm, they were very tight.

Clutch still not working though, how far should the bar travel into the slave cylinder, seems to go only a very short distance about 1/2".

I really dont have any more energy and even worse enthusiasm to start removing clutches again, beginning to hate minis and their constant flaws *frown*

I had the same problem last week. havent solved it yet as when i removed the clutch for inspection the crank taper was damaged so ive got that to replace.

Clutch plate stuck on the splines perhaps? Dont know how common this can be on minis that have been stood.

Ok got the wok bolts set and the clutch bled, and the clutch pedal has now got some movement at last. Still does'nt feel right and may need some more fine tuning. Still a bit tight getting gears (the odd crunch)

The car revs seem to reduce when the clutch is pushed in, something much be catching on the inside. If I clutch the car and try to start it, it is much harder to get going. Once it gears it drives very well.

Hope someone can take a moment to give me their views on this ?

Cheers in advance,

PC.

I still reckon it could be the release bearing.

it could also be knackered thrust bearings

Thanks guys for the help, but in the end i just got to tired and fed up working with the mini.

So threw it on a low loader and sent it off to a mini specialist. First time i ever admitted defeat, but with working 80 hrs a week and trying to keep a woman happy I am just too exhausted.
