Need some advise on setting up my crankpulley with my water pump pulley.

first of i put my cam together.

Then i placed this on the crank.

Then the shims that came off the crank part from before.

Then the cover and crank pulley.

What i wanna know is, where are you meant to line the crank pulley and water pump from.. ?

This is a picture i took.
When i place the fan belt on, The crankpulley looks like it kicks out about 3mm from the water pump.
Is that ok ? or is meant to be spot on ?
This dont tell me in my haynes.
I also took all the shims out. but not much difference.
Any help would be great :)
Cheers..

not sure I get you? they are meant to be in line so the belt has no angle. I would get it as tight towards the timing cover as possible, to keep good clearence between the fan and rad.

You said to Space the water pump pulley out a tad. so would washers behind the water pump (pulley holes) be ok, which would pull the pulley out a tad.

The alternator looks bang inline with the crank pulley by the eye *wink*. thats the only way i know how really ?
cheers.

P.s i have no fan at the side, as the rads at the front.

Cheers.

use a ruler or something to line it up. All three things that the fan belt wrap around should be inline. If everything is inline but the crank damper you may modify something to make that go further in if possible?

On the minispares belt setup i fitted, the kit came with a spacer to go behind the water pump pulley to line it up. It is just a simple affair made from aluminium with central hole to go over the pump shaft and 4 notches in the outer edge that the retaining bolts pass through.

Ideally i think you may need to use a slightly longer bolt in the end of the crank as the belt setup moves the damper/pulley out so the thread engages a little less. Top of my head its 5/8th UNF.

I put some washers behind the holes on water pump pulley. the only way could check to make sure it was lined up.
was to place a long ruler in the centre the both pulleys, looking face on towards the engine. then just looked by eye. looks alot better now.
Do you think having the washers behind will be ok ?
Plus whats another best way to check there inline.
Cheers.
