can you give me some advice on taking my cooper engine out, |

two mounts, 1 under the rad, the other under the clutch.

You will need to remove the engine steady bars, subframe-to-engine mounting bolts (located in the middle of the side, of each side of the subbie). You will also need to disconnected the gear selector bars by removing the pin and nut. Dont forget to disconnect your exhaust.

How do people connect their hoist/crane to the engine - seems to be varying opinions- rocker studs, head studs or put strap round the whole thing? |

i usually put a strap or chain under the engine mounts |

just pick the engine up, thats what i normally do, just get a few mates round, lol |

I use two straps/or seat belts one each end ; all the way under !!
