sorry for hijacking, but does anyone know the diameter and thickness of the boot mounted bar in the miglia rear setup? I´m fabricating one and i have gone for 30mm/2mm ss, does that sound right?

Vegar, remember that Miglias run without an LSD, and have compeltely different needs than your Historic car... It's there to aid grip out of corners, nothing else.

I got told by the mig lads that nobody who runs up front uses them anymore and i should ditch my FRB.

i assume that having the damper is just a posh version of my FRB.

I know, it is not legal to use this kind of setup in historic, and I have a Salisbury (spelling) LSD for him :) But my Thema have no LSD, and I was thinking of maybe trying this :)

I've never really understood the miglia front ARB. All I can see that the damper does is effectively reduce the effect of the ARB, a smaller ARB would be better.

It seems to me that someone came up with this idea and proclaimed it to be amazing, so everybody coppied it without really thinking.

I had a number of handling issues and after lots of thought/reading/discussions I tried a front ARB. In my case and for my car with me driving, it did what I expected and made the car drive much better.

ARBs are not magic. All they do is increase the effective spring rate in roll (cornering) but allow you to ride bumps more smoothley.

Perhaps to dampen out any high frequency vibrations to stop the wheels skipping? Might be bolleaux but I cant think of any other reason.

That car looks awesome though. Where can I get one of those sunstrips ? *tongue*

Peter B was the first to use it, and he was a front runner for how many years?

The usage is such that turn is is crispy quick, but traction is increased after this because the inner wheel is "let" to droop.

But i know for a fact that the front runners dont use them any more, or thats how it was explained.

I was told this at MITP by Mark WAnstall and told to "make some money by putting it on ebay!"

Maybe at some point they thought they were useful but on the current setups they found them to be worse.

If anyone wants a rose jointed one, there will be one for sale when i take it off!

Could this be because Miglia rules have changed a lot lately? Narrower rims, single adjustable dampers etc..

Not sure V, purely they said that they found them to be of no advantage to them so they took them off *smiley*

They were running the roll bars after the rules changed about rim widths, so I don't think it's anything todo with that. Also they are still using 2/3 & 4 way adjustble shocks. From what I have seen, people just tried them, and they didn't improve things on most tracks,

Ask Endaf please :)

Oh, BTW, it isn't a Motorbike shock absorber, it's a motorbike steering damper.

Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

i once run a big one on my lightweight hillclimb car,
the fooking car would understeer in a straight line, and just couldn't put power down on slow bumpy parts, so took it off and the car went like stink.
lent it to another mini driver for sprints and he swears it works with a damper on one end, as will says effectively reducing its effectivness, or in the case of the bar i used seroiusly reducing its stiffness,
i cannot see me ever using one again.
