I was pulling apart an old engine this afternoon to see if any of the bits were useable for my project - I had acquired it ages ago as a "Cooper S" but didn't believe it until I got the timing cover off and saw a duplex chain.

But when I pulled the chain and wheels off, this is what I saw...



Obviously whoever built it had been told they had to use contersunk allen headed setscrews behind the small sprocket instead of the standard hex headed bolts.... but hadn't actually understood what "countersunk" means !!!

The photo doesn't do it justice, but the plate was totally standard and the heads of the "countersunk" screws well chewed.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

That must have made the engine really noisy!! He must have been deaf as well!!
