I am going to refresh the engine, new rings, bearings oil pump ect. I plan to drop the turbo engine on a 998 transmission, with the brether drilled out on the idler casing.

I have a perfect 998 gearbox that has covered 45000 miles, and plan to use this. Is it advisable to rip it apart and rebuild it with new bearings and bulk rings. Or leave it as is considering theres nothing wrong with it. A minispares 4 pin diff will be used.

The reason I ask is, yes its good now, but I question how long it will last when a shed load more torque is put through it. I kind of think I have answered my own question in the previous sentance that it should be rebuilt but would like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

cheers
James

stowmaket suffolk

well if its a a+ box then good choice.

it would proberly be ok, check for up and down play and lontiudanal (endfloat) play in the lay shaft.

inspect main and and first motion shaft bearing for smooth rotaion and check cages.

then wiggle 1st 2nd and 3rd gear on main shaft shouldnt be much play here at all but a little is exceptable.

persoanly i would strip down just to make sure if you can do it yourself.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I will seperate the engine from it in the near future, check the points mentioned and if in doubt tear it apart.

Thats great info. Cheers.
