First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

i cant believe what just happened

i was just putting on my oil drain plate, and to do this i had to remove the 2 bolts that are in the block already. on these bolts was a washer each.........

so i undid the first bolt, and guess what, the stupid gaylord of a shitty washer slipped off, went though the hole and has landed in my gearbox!

im now attempting to drill a hole through a small magnet attaching a piece of string to it in hope that i can fish it out and not have to take the engine out and split it

anyone wanna finish my car for me?

no, its impossible to drill a magnet with regular drill bits, just broke it, leaving the tinyest of dents on the magnet

ill do avon park next year

go to a tool shop and see if they do a flexible magnet on a stick, might be worth a shot. i got one for a quid off a market stall once and its saved me literally hundreds of hours work retrieving nuts washers etc even a socket from a sump on a landcruiser once *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

If it's only a little washer I wouldn't worry to much.

I'm sure it will just swim around in the bottom of the box hopefully on day finding it's way to the drain plug magnet.

If the washers that small how about trying to pour in all the oil you've got
with the sump plug out see if it comes out that way

even if it doesn't it may move it closer to the sump plug hole so you can get it with the magnet easyer

if its a 1/2 spring washer , i won`t fancy that messing with my gears.

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

I dropped a washer in the box at the weekend and the thing was split, that was hard enough with running gallons of parafin through it. would it be an idea to take the speedo drive housing off and go in that way?, have spare gasket if you require it.

Speedo housing by sure the best bet...

If you but the engine/box on your engine stand, you'll be able to tip it up easilly enough aswell...

feel free to take back the bad luck phil, i think im finished with it, this is the third successive year i will miss running at avonpark!

the engines in the car but i do have the joy of a flipfront, in the week the speedo housing idea came to me thanks to rich from mirage, gonna give it a go tomorrow.

if i were to drain the sump then i dont think the washer would come out, but this will give me more access space doing it this way

thanks for the gasket offer jon but i have several in the garage
not gonna leave that washer in, could be an expensive mistake
