leeds/wakefield.

heres another one for you techno types,

noe ive got a new HD, ,ive had to reinstall a load of stuff,
outlook express being one of them, all went ok untill it reloaded 6600 mails into my inbox, i then had to skim through all these and delete all the spam, almost all of them, but most deffinatly absent from these were any mails i had kept in my inbox, as they either inquiries of ongoin correspondance,

it strikes me all i had send to me was all the shit i may have deleted, and none of the stuff i had kept,

or am i missing something,

were all the kept mails stored on my old HD. and the deleted crap send back to OE,

a bit confused and annoyed,

carl

yep, most installs of outlook and outlook express use a system called pop3 for email, where emails are downloaded to your pc, the deleted off the server. Newer systems use imap, which store everything on the server

I back up my email stuff from time to time. So I have a fairly recent copy of everything, on both laptop, and PC.

bit of a PITA though. Even on main PC, I try to keep any important stuff on a drive, other than the main C: drive.

if it was hotmail account, you may be lucky and its kept the emails as its not a pop3...its html, so should be ok as long as you never deleted them from Outlook Express etc
