Getting close now!

Just a bit of welding to the intercooler (Cheers Joe mini13), calipers (Cheers Andy W), then it should be pretty much done.

I'm nearly done now. Just some really minor bits to get sorted.

Problem is, we get the keys to our new home on Friday! Things will definitely be slow for the next few months.

The red leads really bug me. Does anyone know where I can get some black or blue ones of the same length? All of the ones that I've seen are really short.

Cheers

Cheers Matty. Do you think that they'd reach the bulkhead?

You may joke! lol! I was considering something along those lines!

IC fits a dream, just need to trim a little bit off the slam panel to get the pipe on the rad side comfortably. Thanks again for you help mate, I couldn't have done it without you.

Only thing that I'm a little worried about is the airflow to the rad, as I'm restricting most of the airflow through the front grille.

should be ok,

miniwilliams for example runs an intercooler that covers the grill area, and has a tad more power lol.

Engine and transmission spec is pretty much exactly all the bits i have in my garage for my build bar the benross head, nic plenum and some sort of IC which i plan to add to the concoction!!!

Ive even painted my block black *tongue*

Did you have to get the lugs on the backplate machined down or is that only on the double grey diagphram?

What boost you planning on?

Looks great mate cant wait to see the results :)

You will have to ask Carl about the backplate as he built the engine.

Carl was running 20psi with the standard head which made 169nanas. I was going to try and keep it below 18psi.

Let's see what happens!

I started the car for the first time!!! Fired up straight away!

Sounds totally awesome! apart from the rockers hitting the cover. I have ground as much as I dare off the rocker cover and pushed it as far back as possible, but it's still catching somewhere.
New rocker cover on the shopping list then.

I'm pretty sure that the fuelling etc is close as it was set up properly on Carls car, and the only thing that has changed is the head and turbo (same turbo, the one I had did not has as much play). But I will still take it for a rolling road session as soon as I've got it mot'd.

I'm really excited now and relieved that everything is looking good, no smoke whatsoever and good oil pressure.

cool!

no the lugs werent machined down on back plate.

i used to just push the rocker cover hard back whilst tightening the nuts and they used to just clear rockers.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Tried pushing it back as much as possible, and ground loads off the inside-back, but it still catches. I would think that it's because the head has had a skim to get the compression back up to 8.4, thus altering the angle of the rockers slightly. With the MG cover, it is fine, so I'll either use one of these or get the Minispares 'clears all know brands of high-lift rocker' cover.

Mot Tomorrow!

All seems well, other than the under bonnet temp being a little higher than I'd like.

Once it's legal, I'll be getting the suspension setup and then onto the rolling road next week. I think that a new rad will be on the shopping list, but I will be trying a heater matrix in the inner wing first.

Thanks to everyone that has helped me with this. I really would never have got this done without you. I've got no mechanical/engineering experience (other than Technic Lego and Meccano) and am a bit of an airhead. So this just goes to show what the power of TM and the wealth of knowlege and willingness to help from TM members can do. 'E-pat on the back from me'

I hate to think what situation I would be in right now, if I had turned to one of the many lesser mini forums for help.

Here's some pics...

Thanks guys
