Does any one know if the speedo is actually checked in an MOT?

as i'm sure my car passed last gear with the speedo not working.

Nope not checked. They like to look for the mileage tho, my bike speedo confused him a bit :)

Yeah I thought about the milage, which will not have moved since last year....

it used to be that if you didn't take the old mot then they wouldn't know tha last milage.. but now with mot's on database i'm guessing they could look it up.

Well sounds like it should be alright, which is nice as i don't fancy pulling out the speedo drive.

IIRC you legally need to have a speedo, and the testers may rightly cause a fuss if one is missing, that said the speedo is not tested during an MoT nor is the car driven during an MoT, so in theory there is no way that an MoT centre will know if it is working or not.

The wheels turn when its on the brake rollers so the will know if it works or not but its not part of the MOT so it cant fail for a speedo.

I dont even have a speedo drive in the gearbox or a cable and the tester took it for a spin down the road - it still passed 2 years in a row.
Although he might have been too busy with the torque steer to have noticed the speedo. (He said its the worst torque steer he'd ever known of)

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Car should have one fitted but there is no actual test for it. I'm sure is there isn't one in the car at all you will fail. Don't think the rollers spin the wheels fast enough to register a speed - I may be wrong though!

haven't had a speedo in mine for the past few years, MOT chappie doesn't really notice though as i usually end up sitting in the car doing the lights and putting it on the brake rollers etc.
