got a call from the painter to tell me the shell is now done and I can pick it up. Can't wait to see it after all the time it has taken to weld, prep and paint. just got to build it up now!

I wondered how long it would take for someone to comment on the ride height! The frames were temporary for moving it around. I've got powdercoated ones built up ready to fit - the new ride height should be a good bit lower!

looking good. Am I right in thinking that is a steel front? did you weigh all the metal you chopped out from there and inside, during the next round of modification to mine I'm planning to get air hack saw happy.

yes, steel front. It was going to be removable but I wasn't happy with the fit around the scuttle so ened up welding it on. As for weighing things, there was a lot of patchedm rust underseal etc so wasn't something I bothered with. I have cut out the rear seat base and the pockets as well. I'm sure the 30,000m of welding wire have made up for it though!

could have been perfectly timed if it wasn't for the fact I'm away for a couple of weeks at Chrimbo so it will have to wait until the new year before I can get into it.

colours are monsoon grey (landrover) and the roof is a Chrysler colour but it is so long ago since I picked it out and can't remember what it is called!

Hoping for a first outing to Avon 08 but i'll wait and see.........

What else have you in store for it , What wheels , inside , engine?

Give us all a brief spec

That looks really cool, not too dis-similar to the colours that Broadspeed Racing ran on their minis in the 60s, just with the roof and body colours reversed. Hope the build up goes well!!

cheers for all the possitive thoughts.

Basic spec as funds allow will follow along the lines of a set of 10x7" split rims from Carl (not sure if centres should be body colour or not), group 5 euro arches, satin black bumpers, de-chrome most things (i'm not sure about painted headlight rings - may be too much)

Engine wise, I'll no doubt follow that well beaten track to Benross' door for the head. The usual forged pistons, SC box etc.

Internally, its going to be a bit more than a racer. I'm heading towards some leather front seats but I've not made my mind on the donor vehicle yet. A few people have now suggested a red leather but i'm not sure if this might clash with the roof if it is not carefully selected. I did see a nice 40th interior on ebay a few weeks ago but it went for daft money.

I fancy one of the charcoal dashboards with the grey dash rails - the whole idea being to build a car Rover might have I suppose.

the rest I'll just wait and see how it pans out!
