OK, for those of you in East Anglia (like me), and there seem to be a lot of you on this forum *smiley**smiley**smiley*

Who would you recommend for "basic" work on the A series (ie, rebore, milling bearing caps for "centre main bolts) etc, ie, a good shop who will actually listen to (and understand) the customer)...

I used to use a place NE of Ipswich (for other cars) but they folded due to ill health of the owner, so anywhere in the Ipswich/Norwich/Lowestoft triangle.

I could go further south (ie, Colchester) if the recommendation was really good but really want some "old timers" who know what they are really doing !!!

If you are prepared to travel along the A14 a little way then you may want to try Ivor Searle at Soham.

I think that Hoggy has used them in the past.

Thanks Paul S...
Within my "Colchester radius" and the location is "well Known" around here for all the wrong reasons (just like Ipswich).
I'll see what else comes up first, but thanks for that...

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

ELB's in Sudbury, Suffolk. Very good with general block & cranks. Apparently used to be in the old Street Machine magazine for modding props & half shafts. Proper old skool *wink*

Proper old skool sounds good, and not too far away (only 15m SW of Ipswich) but why is there nobody nearer to me !!!!
Rural Suffolk I suppose is the answer, but the country lanes make it worthwhile !!!

They haven't got a website.....Like I said, old skool. Just a word of mouth company.

lol ok im a bit bias but!

No! you want Radco Engineering on bull lane industrial estate. (nr. sudbury) run by my dad as it happens!

http://www.radcoengines.co.uk/

We do pretty much everything to do with engines and obviously have quite a bit of a-series experiance!

Whoa.... Didn't want to start a war here !!!
But it's good to see there are more firms than I thought not too far away and recommended by forum members.
I'll watch the thread over the next few days as I won't be getting anything done until the new Year.
But thanks for your recommendations, keep them coming....

Shane, yes, I've heard some good things about Scholar and they are very near me (relatively) but, like Holbay (also very near), I've also had some bad feedback from people I used to work with. Hence my wanting "word of mouth" from people on the forum of any others in my area. Seems like you have good experience with them so I may need to reconsider what I've previously heard !!!

The only bad thing I have to say about the firm is you wont get anything out of them in a hurry, They do a great job a a reasonable price in thier own time. They are very busy so it is understandable.

Suffolk way there is also Brian Randall. Very good stuff, does a lot of crossflow ford and pinto motors and does it very well. Always seems to be busy though but the quality is very good. Or if your willing to travel a little further there is Damico race engines at East Harling in norfolk (snetterton pretty much). Very good and nice work, had them deck my block after the k conversion and just down the road from work.
