Anyone used one of these?

Reason i ask, is the missus is in the process of closing her salon, too go mobile. I need to run a wax heater from the car, so was going to install one of these. couple of questions:

1. do they use loads of power?
2. will they effect other electrical equipment ie lights with there power draw?
3. can a standard cig lighters wiring handle one? or would it be best to install a new one. using a larger cable direct from the batt?
4. if it worth upgrading the batt with one?

i will find out the power consuption of the unit tonight, but it cant be that much surely?

Ta very much

Compare the watts of the unit to the watts of your heater...

Definately get one at least double the size needed. Fan cooled a must.

Personally, I'd hard-wire it in if she'll be using it more than twice a week. Yes - they do draw a good current. Whilst the engine is running, it won't be a problem. If the engine is turned off - you'll be needing a good battery!

I ran my house on one of the biggest ones you can get when we were without power for nearly a week a few months ago. It powered everything except for the fridge. Even the washing machine worked!

i have one infront of me right now *happy* i used to have it in the mini but ive now stripped that out and guess what, its for sale! *wink* says its 150W continuous power and 300 peak, 12V DC to 23ov AC fan cooled, just what you need *happy* needs to be hard wired into the battery but thats not a problem.

by my calcs it will draw 12.5A continuous and 25A at peak.

Best to have the car running or fun split batteries. i would say split batteries on a mobile salon because you'll have quite alot of draw on one battery and you not going to want to have the car running all the time.

if your interested you can have it for £30 posted. the make skytronic :S

hey, cheers for the advice, the unit will use 75w apparently, so a friend suggested this: http://www.aldi-stores.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_4477.htm as per Daves comments its double the power required.

It will only be used a couple of times a week, just whist she's driving the the clients house, so should be fine. we only have a fork Ka though, so i will monitor the battary
