see the "how to" section on this web site, there is some excellent safety considerations as well as a link to a diagram.

Feeb's i did gcse electonics and you shouldnt even need a diagram!!

Just put an inertia switch inline with the switching to the relay.

its dangerous cos if you have a crash then when the engine stalls your pump will carry on going and you run the risk of spraying fuel everywhere.

i really should do mine properly all i have is a 15A fuse, gotta get an inertia switch.

do not run your pumps even temporay on just the ignition. you never ever know when an accident will happen. get to the scrapyard and get an inertia switch, found very easy on most later peugeots ,citroens, rovers ,early fords with efi etc cost about 2 quid easy to wire up to.

when you get one cut a couple of inches of wire and the plug too makes easier to wire up *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

An inertia swith is a little box that is bolted to a rigid point in your car (mine is on the predal box).
Inside, there is a pivoting electrical contact (just like inside a normal switch, but longer).
Under this is a steel ball that is sitting in a upturned cone.
When the unit recieves a sudden deceleration, the inertia of the heavy ball forces it up the ramps where it trips the electrical contact, hence opening the circuit.
They are easilly re-set with an external plunger that pushes the electrical contact back down.

They do vary is design and operation, but the principle is the same - a heavy ball on a ramp that trips an electrical contact.

how much shock would be required to trip the switch?
is it just in a rapid deceleration (i.e crash)
or can an emergency stop trip the switch??

its an impact of sharp bump that sets them off, not really an emergency stop.

Im going to use it to cut ignition and pump as if the pump stops and you dont realise then you will get lean out and possible melt down.
