Well the first person appears to be a chap called Greg Timken of Canada. Put an 8v k100 head on a serious overbore 850 block in 1985. Then it was bruno rouille an engine designer by trade looking for a good cylinder head on the existing mini block for a race car. He tried several different ones before he found the k100 fitted well.

And i found it when i was searching through a pile of Car and Car Conversion magazines i had bought at an autojumble. I then found the article on bruno rouille's part built engine and saw that a bloke local to me at college done the machining work on it. Went and picked his brains, then it began! That was 28 months ago now and its still not done.

Must have been June 2004, iirc

I certainly hope so. Its not as though i don't have the facilities its the time! Running 8 F1 cars takes its toll during a race season. Now i finally have a little bit of time i'm going for it! Found out i have 284 degree cams in mine so i'm well chuffed! And despite living 5 mins from JohnK i have designed my own bits and pieces as no one was selling the parts when i began mine. All fun and games.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've been in contact with Greg but he hasn't told me how he came up with the idea! must have been a very exciting moment I would have thought! you youngsters have me beaten on timing I only started in Oct 2005!

Antman for sure will get his home brew on the road in 2008!!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I too looking to be ready for Minis Vs Beetles*tongue*

I am however, waiting till Bingley to try and find some std size Powermax pistons, before I use the std rover ones. Also waiting on my rods and block, everything else is ready, even working on coil on plug ignition to get round packaging issues*wink* should have that running on the 1400 within the week*tongue*

New STEEL front end going on at the end of January along with the auto subframe and all my new suspension*smiley*

Im not going to be making my self ill this time, though i am a bit poorly with the man flue at the moment. so if I miss that target, thers a bit more time till Avon*wink*

See you at Bingley John. I hope you had a decent Chrisrmas. Hows the development going? Got any Turbo manifolds designed for the GT17 yet?*wink*

Ahh - minis v beetles should be fun if we can all make it there

good idea trying benchmark developments out on the 1400 whilst its a "known" qty.

Christmas was good thanks - plenty of tme in the workshop.lol!

You'll have to saunter over to see us at Bingley for a gander at my new engine, all the hard work is done now - just the real build.hint hint!!

- I'll drop you an email about Feb and set up etc -looking forward to it
