I bought an 850 crank off ebay last week and it arrived yesterday.

The strangest thing is that the big ends are cross-drilled. It is not a standard crank that has been modified by plugging the original hole and drilling through the big end. The hole from the mains is at a different angle and the two holes in the big end are not in line. Hence, i would assume that this is how it left the factory.

Otherwise the crank appears standard in EN16T and no sign of any lightening or hardening. There are the usual balancing marks.

The only reference to this in the BYB would suggest that this is an original Special Tuning crank.

Can anyone throw any more light on this subject?

All I know is that all 1100 cranks seem to be treated the same way. Maybe some 850s were as well?

Hello

Most 850 cranks seem to be cross drilled , as are most , if not all 997 cooper cranks.

Later A series cranks have basic pin to main oil drilling , which is good enough , but is cheaper to produce as less drilling is required .
