Fuel pressure too high, or leaking float valve.

Check return is flowing enough.

totally correct.
That pipe should be blocked for the 'turbo' anyway.

Fuel pressure check, if ok, remove carb and strip out the float chamber and see what the problem is.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

It needs to be blocked off, the solenoid just opens when the car is switched off.

Have a look see if your gettting any return, you shaould hardly need any pressure just to get started, it usually fills the bowl up easy enough.

Screw it in to increase fuel pressure

It does need to be blocked off as Iain says, but it shouldn't be pissing fuel.

Fix that problem before blocking up the pipe.

You need to measure the fuel pressure. In the past I've connected my boost gauge to the fuel line to set the pressure.

If the return is suspected, then simply connect a short piece of fuel pipe to the regulator's return and let it flow into a petrol can.
If the pressure is still high, then investigate the regulator.

To be honest, having a restriction in the return pipe, kink or incorrect bore is the most common problem with fresh installs.

You need around 4psi at idle.

im wondering, may be silly but you definately linked up the pipes correct on the top of the tank didnt you? The furthest one away, when looking in the boot is the supply i think.

Enough Guys. You are picking things up of the shelf or workshop floor, without stripping and inspecting and expecting them to work perfectly?
Do yourself a favour and strip it and give them an inspection before fitting...
Also invest fifteen pounds in a gunsons lo-gauge so you can accurately check the fuel pressure.

sorry dad, wont do it again, the carb that was on it, was all connected up to the engine when i bought t and i was told it was a good engine, so unfortunatly i trusted the bloke, and ive been burnt! so i have now stripped a good carb down, cleaned everything and its good, apart from the float chamber leaking, i tightened everything up as well, so i dont know whats hapened there, apart from that, everything is either new or has been cleaned and inspected, the bores etc were good, its a total recon head, everything else is immac.
so dont start telling me to start cleaning stuff before i put it on please!

runs sweet as fuck!
we cleaned the carb totally, cleared the blocked jet, plumbed it all back in, set the timing to the std makrs, and tried it, would fire but not start, so we dvanced the timing by approx 30 degrees! and it now fires in and starts first turn of the key everytime! sounds gorgeous!
looks like i will be at avon park

can i just ask, iumn just gonna go try this. Is it fully anticlockwise then to get minimum fuel pressure on the regulator?

Im gonna do that , then see if my car idles.
