Brass - 0.306 lb/cu in
Steel - 0.283 lb/cu in

So Brass is heavier.

Sorry abou the units, but it came from my old Newnes Engineers Pocket Book.

leeds/wakefield.

google it lad,

brass is 8.5 gms per cm3,
ans stainless steel is 8 gms per cm3, so even taking into account the dromium in stainless steel brass will still be slightly heavier than your average carbon stll, and most ,if not all steels,

Nothing major. I compared an alloy door hinge to a steel one the other day to see what weight saving I would get, The hinges on my car are brass so didnt know how that compared. It would seem now though that I will get an even bigger saving as the brass ones are even heavier.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Can't say I've ever heard of brass hinges fitted to cars.

no,

your thinking of the rate they fall at.

the ton of feathers falls slower on earth due to air resistance.

I sense Carl has a hidden argument here. My intelligence is often hidden by beer most of the time, so I'm going to sit on the fence on this one till I'm sober enough to come out with some amazing piece of fact.
