I think that it is in a sandwich plate between the head and the thermostat.

The SPI temp sender is in the inlet manifold. Its underneath where the water pipes are for the manifold.

The MPi sandwich plate is what you want then. You can use the standard rover MPi senso, which is a nice cheap unit, compared to the SPi one. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

There's a bit of a boss at that point. The latest carb 1275s had a sensor of some kind at that point.
