Hi,
Where is the temp sensor used by the ECU on SPi ?
I'd like to put a 2.5k sensor in place of the dash temp sender on the 998 head. Is it possible, I mean is there exist a sensor with the same thread.
Thanks

I think that it is in a sandwich plate between the head and the thermostat.

I've bought a sandwich plate from Minispares and tapped it M12 for mine.

Ok, thanks Paul.
The sensor mounting point is the last point I have to solve to have everything for MPi.
However the sandwitch plate with sensor is only specified as MPI part, that's why I wonder it was made on SPi.

The SPI temp sender is in the inlet manifold. Its underneath where the water pipes are for the manifold.

Now im a bit tired so maybe wrong... but i dont think i am.

Jackman, you are correct.

Paul, have you tried that with the thermostat yet?

alpha, if you have the hole in the head for the normal temp sensor, id use the SPi senso in there, its the same shape. You will then need to have a boss welded onto the thermostat housing for the temp gauge sender

You could use the MPI sandwich plate, but you would then have to make up a bracket for the radiator, or run a front mount instead *tongue*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The MPi sandwich plate is what you want then. You can use the standard rover MPi senso, which is a nice cheap unit, compared to the SPi one.

This is mine.

Normal sender for the gauge.

Standard bosch 2.5k sensor for the ECU.

Both working correctly.

Paul, was not the plate too thin to taper in it ?
How much thread "steps" (is that the right word ?) did you get in the sandwitch wall ?

There's a bit of a boss at that point. The latest carb 1275s had a sensor of some kind at that point.

I'm sure it is in by about four threads, say about 5mm.

Anyway, although i've only just wired it in, it has been in place for 6000 miles.
