I'm wanting to install a bigger inlet valve in a head i'm working on.
I know i can take it to a machine shop & have them cut the head for the bigger valve, but i prefer to do as much as i can myself. So is there a tool/fitting i can purchase to do this ? I have access to a heavy duty bench drill/drill press if that helps ?

Cheers
Phil. :)

NO. Anyway you'll end up with a rubbish result.

Have a search for Serdi, Newen or possibly Mira on 2nd hand stuff.

So that's a NO to the fitting in a drill press idea. But there are things available from the makers you named, yes ?
What exactly am i looking for, does it have a specific name ?
Just trying to get an idea exactly what i'm looking for.

The cheapest option would be a hand-driven MIRA I guess. I have no idea on what they're worth. I'm looking for one myself. To be honest, this IS a professional job.

You could use this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Neway-Valve...sspagenameZWDVW

But, let's say you increase valve size from 33,3 to 35,6m you'll end up with a 3mm wide seat, which would be less efficient than a properly cut three angled 33,3mm one.

Basicly, anythings that uses a stone as a grinder is useless. Only slighly useable if you're just dressing up old proper seats.

iv found a stone one really good if carefully used phil ,
look on ebay for nuway for cutters ,
and ,a lot cheaper , some of the old valve grinding stone kits with the drill and arbors and stones ,and especially the diamond tipped stone shaping tool .
using this you can make a stone to do all the angles ,and also to open up the port you can use a square edged stone .
i used this on my conversion from 29 to 32 mm ex valves and it was fine, and powerwise it was successful.
good luck

Cheers guys.
I have some of the proper Neway valve seat cutters in 60,45 & 30deg.
But these are just for the final seat cutting aren't they ? rather than removing enough metal to install a 3mm bigger valve ?
Vizard mentions something about a "single point piloting tool mounted in a drill" to cut the head and first part of the throat for bigger valves.

if you have the cutters phil , id just make a disc or tube the size you want the port ,and put a hole in the centre the size of the arbor ,slide it down the arbor and use it to guage how much m eat to take out with a carbide cutter .then put on the 3 angles job done .

vegard ill have a look but i think i wacked it all together without a pic .

The Neway cutters i've got seem to produce a decent seat & i've got the 3 angles required, so if i cant get anything satisfactory made up to open the head for bigger valves i'll just take it to the local machine shop.

Cheers guys. :)
