.........and scales.
Ive spent ages wittling away at the case for my new gearbox and according to my bathroom scales its now over a kilo lighter. I cant believe this so can anybody else weigh one or two so I can get a rough idea if thats right. Ofcourse I know that they vary.
Odd question I know.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

My DAM 2886 case, with diff housing and associated studs/nuts, withOUT side plates, withOUT speedo end casting (but with associated studs, and all other studs installed waiting), and unfortunately WITH selector shaft/interlock, bell cranks, selector rods/forks and reverse gear/shaft (ie, all the steel bits you leave in if they were working OK) is 10kg on my bathroom scales.
I'm sure you can weigh the selector/reverse bits and do the maths but, I expect bathroom scales vary more than dynos do (esp. at these low readings !!!).

Was searching for some other gearbox parts this afternoon and came across the above mentioned steel bits from a box I had scrapped a while ago (cracked casing). So, out of idle curiosity, off to the kitchen scales...
Selector shaft and interlock tube 350g
Bell cranks (3) and the boss/shaft they sit on 400g
Selector rod and both forks 575g
Reverse idler gear and shaft 500g
Rod.

The extra weigh helps keep the front down and improves traction

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
