So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

be carefull wolfie as i have had probs with the ring packs from minispares as you have read. they were all to small so the gap was to big.

the powermax ones were spot on but didnt fit the pistons, but i would go for the total seal ones and see what they are like

at the mo i are going to trim down some plus 60's

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I've experienced the same problem with these rings. The odd one in a pack i had was first compression ring and was a +20 stamped as +40.

I believe that there is most likely a few sets of mega +40 turbo pistons in circulation with the wrong size ring land groove. The set i first had the correct rings fitted but the ring lands had been machined much bigger. I think there was something like 18-20 thou play. Minispares couldn't understand what i was telling them, so i had to call the north to talk to them. The whole batch turned out to be wrong in the end. I think the ring lands had been machined for the standard turbo rings i think, its 5 years ago so not 100%

yes they have now standerdised the ring sets buy all accounts now but for some reason the rings are still to small giving larger than acceptable ring gaps, cant understand this as that way it gives no service live for the rings, 20 thou for compression and 40-50 thou for oil control is way to big.

Minispares may try and standardise there rings. However if pistons go through that are machined wrong to fit the rings, they aint ever going to fit.

Some of the rings i've seen had the wrong size stamped on them !!!

I think the mistakes have happened at Mogul who make the stuff. When i had problems it took me months just to get minispares to check these rings. After much chasing my set was sent with other rings to an engine builder they are friendly with. He confirmed what i had been saying for ages, the rings are stamped with the wrong size.

Easy way forward is,

Don't just put your new rings / pistons in. Check the fit of just the rings in your bores. Check every ring (i had 1 odd one). Check them in the ring lands to.

If they aint in spec send them back.

bets way wolfie ie to take block to minispares and fit some which will fit the bores and pistons.

all i know is the power max range doesnt fit apart from the oil control rings

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
