First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Hello all

Since changing turbos ive noticed that there has always been a collection of oil in my intercooler hosing etc.

Can any one suggest to me what area of the turbo i should be looking at when I pull it apart. I presume its an oil seal or similar gubbins in the compressor side.

The turbo is from the T2 family

Cheers
Nic

Warwick.

the piston ring that sits against the top plate for the inlet side, also check the surface that the piston ring sits inside the top plate isnt too damaged
also the thrust spacer (i think thats what its called) that the piston clip is located which then goes to the top plate sits on the shaft without too much play at all

David.

Cheers, that gives me something to look into

Its a hybrid, i did look into going for something from the gt series when I changed, but for some reason I was discouraged away from that

I was looking at their middle of the road hybrid as I want to run 15psi. I might order the manifold kit this week!

Warwick.

just to correct myself (checked today at work) its the thrust coller i was on about.
check the piston clip is of uniform shape and sits on the coller correctly, push the coller fitted with piston-clip into the top plate making sure it sits there correctly
also make sure the thrust coller locates on the shaft correctly without too much movment which could allow oil past

not sure if your turbo is one of these but some are fitted with 'O' rings, make sure there located correctly aswell

David.

I found the problem

I pulled it apart and some doofus had missed the circlip out that holds that top plate in!!!!!!!

Everything else in there seems perfect, so i pieced it all back together and hopefully all will be good. Fortunately everything was marked up too so it was childs play putting it back together

Thanks for your assistance people
