Hi all
I have recently bought a bought a 1979 Mini van (1293) with a turbo
technics t2 conversion. It has omega forged pistons , piper cam , duplex timing ,skimmed/polished metro turbo head etc.
Its running, so I'm told on 9psi of boost and putting out 111 lb of torque with a 114 bhp - all this is running on a standard j reg cooper gearbox which has now shit itself !!
I was planning to upgrade the box as soon as poss with something stronger, but sadly now its too late.
Now every time I speak to someone (friend/mechanic) they bombard me with endless possibilities (jack knight, tran x,salisbury etc)
any suggestions ? (budget £ 3000)
Cheers Jonnyjavascript:void(0)

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

hi there john and a warm welcome to turbo minis

best option here is.... minispares clubman gearset, minispares straight cut drop gear set 24 tooth and a minispares 4 pin diff and all new bearings , double roller mainshaft first motion shaft bearing and the 2 diff bearings,

job done!
that lot togeather with all the gaskets will set you back well under a grand!
most peeps on here run the above with power outputs well over 160 bhp with no problems.. hope this helps *happy*

If your budget is up to £3000 I would do as Benross suggests above but also add a Quaife ATB limited slip diff to your list in place of the 4 pinion diff. This is about £600 I believe, but a very worthwhile addition.

I wish I had £3000 to spend on a gearbox!

I take it that this is the Greyish coloured Van with the black revos.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

If you deffinately were going to stick to that boost/power, you could get away with standard gears and just a cross pin diff and straight cut drops. But if you must spend £3000, spend £1500 on the gearbox and make use of those forged pistons by getting a Benross head and turn the wick up!
