Hi Guys,

Well, I searched and searched the forums and based on you lot I finally went and bought a bike speedo for my Mini.

It has a max of 120mp/h and 199km/h, odo, time, avg speed, max speed, la la la la

Anyway, I am thinking about options in mounting the sensor and magnet.
I know some of you mounted in the rear hub and extended the wires.

Q1. What did you use to glue the magnet to the hub?

Q2. Anyone see problems sticking the magnet to the pot joint? I have a clubman, with the round pot joints. They stick out of the diff housing and only rotate... so I thought mount the sensor on firewall or similar and the magnet on the pot joint.

Thanks!!!

Peter

I tried mine on the pot joint, and anything over 40 mph it stoppped working... Im guessing the pulse time was just to shoort for the sensor to quantify..

The best option is the rear hub I think..

Find yourself some good epoxy type glue, don't use chemical metal beacuse the magnet will suck it all onto its face lol..

When I did this, I took the guts out of an old speedo, mounted it in a box and stuck the magnets on that. This meant that it was hidden away under the dash and was a quick install too. And if a magnet falls off, then you don't loose them!

Go for the Hub. I put mine on the driveshaft temporarily and athough it worked its more reliable in the hub and easy to fit.

Ok, convinced. Ill use the drum like in the pic!

Hmmm, my magnet doesnt screw in - wish it did now.

Does anyone know if any magnet will work? I will grab a magnet I have at home and try it... reason I ask is the one that came with the kit has grooves for bicycle spokes and might be a little more fiddly to mount...

Oh well, off to the test track (my street) :)

Thanks for the help guys!

yes, any magnet will do as long as its strong enough.

i'm sure you must be able to get the screw in ones from somewhere, even if only from acewell stockists as a spare?

youll never get it bang on measuring it. There too much variation with the size of the magnet and the size of the pick up.

Iains idea is the best way to go.

what does that matter?

Its the size of the wheel/tyre combo that determines how far the car goes per magnet revolution

What a Nugget *tongue*

I was getting confused.

Theres no datum from the centre of the hub to the pickup ie do you take the measurement to the centre of the pickup but it only matters with the magnet doesnt it,..

the radius is from the hub centre to the edge of the tyre.

i think though that the acewell is set on wheel circumference, most are.

basically put a chalk mark on the road, and one on the tyre at the bottom, then push it forward until the tyre mark is back at the bottom (one full revolution) then mark the road again.

measure between the two and thats your approx wheel circumference. then trim with a GPS
