No, it's not an R5.

Looks like a nice size though, and I can see it fitting quite nicely under a mini bonnet.

Not a R5 cooler, well not like the one on this page anyway.

The construction looks similar to the BMW one i have, could be from and older bimmer desil.

Difficult to tell from the pic, but if the pipes are 40mm or so, then it's a vauxhall TD unit. If they are 50mm, it's either a Vauxhall LET or a granada TD.

I think...

cheers mini13. I had a slight hunch it may be off an diesel vauxhall, as there was a blue turbo mini as the cover car on the miniworld mag, who had an intercooler of a diesel vaux, and it looked mighty like it. Just wanted to double check though

Pipes are 40mm. Would this be a good enough intercoooler or is it worthwhile changing to a 2wd sierra intercooler

depends,

how much boost will you be running?

that cooler will work ok but a cossie one will be better as it is about twice the size.

For what it cost i'd use that one, just try to get it somewhere where the air will get to it *smiley*

Looks like a series 2 Escort RS Turbo intercooler to me. Had one for a project many years back.
