Anyone ever change one of these? I'm referring to the pin that holds the radius arm in the rear subby.
Got two whole kits for free and seeing as my Yak is crabbing a bit, thought I'd go ahead and change them/it.
Also, should i do them both at the same time or should I just do the bad side?

Thanks

Tom

Is there sideways play in rear arm? Theres a bush that needs pressed into the arm and reamed out to the correct size so you'll need a machine shop for that bit I'm affraid.

Sounds like tracking more that arm wear. Right first thing to do is jack up the rear of the car and grab the wheel and pull it in and out. If it moves at all then you have wear. If it doesn't then your waisting you time rebuilding the pins. If it is crabbing what I would do is use a "string computer" to check tracking front and rear. Park the car on flat ground (if you have just let the car down off the jack then move the car around to get the suspension to settle to propper ride height), set the sterring at dead ahead and then wrap a string around the whole car running throught the centreline of the wheels. It might not work if you car is over-arched but it will help show up if your toeing in or out dramatically. If this fails get your tracking checked properly at a tire place. If tracking is fine then check out tire pressures and also check to make sure no calipers/cylinders are siezed in the brakes.

This is the kit I used and the two cylindical upright jobbies are the bushes that get pressed into the arm. This is no problem but they were designed so that they are smaller that the shaft and are reamed out to size. Anyway, I suspect that yours is OK and something else is causing the sideways walk action.

try greasing them up first, that can take up a little play sometimes

So I did like Jay said and tested the play in the arms.
Pass side is ok but there's major play on the drivers side.

Joey there's so much filth caked on them I couldn't even find the grease nipple.

What if I tried sanding the bushes?

So it's definately play in the shaft and not a wheel bearing or anything random? When you are giving the wheel a good wig, look at the arm where it mounts to the subrame and you will see it move around. If it's definately the shaft then yes it's time for a rebuild. You would really need a reamer to get the bush the right size for the shaft. I got mine done at a machine shop for about £30 each. Exchange arms are available from MS too.

I have one rebuild kit available and two spare arms. Tony at St Pauls can ream them for you if you dont have tooling. I wouldnt recommend doing only one side though.

Yes Jay when i wiggle the wheel i can see the shaft moving.
How would I know how much to ream them out to though?
TBH I think I'll just leave it for now. I'm way too broke.
Will it fail an MOT on it?

"Just leave it for now"?

Not really an option, either get it sorted or don't drive it is my advice.
