I should first start by saying thanks to Al for the pistons, and fordimus maximus for a new set of rings.

I am going to pull the old rings out and start cleaning up the crown and ring lands (which are within toleance), and was wondering the best method to remove all the carbon.

I have seen oven cleaner been mentioned in other threads. is this the best method just to let a bit of that soak in?

Thanks
James

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

TCP...to rid of any infection.
Used abit of wet'n'dry in all seriousness.
Just done one, took 2 minutes with 1200 grit. Needs abit more, but you get the idea.

Thinners seem to work well to get the worst off and a bit of wet and dry to finish! (the wet and dry method could be a way of cleaning your ring land too)! *laughing*
