I realise that this could well be a how long is a piece of string question, but what is a fair price for getting a head ported?

A mate off mine is porting one of my heads for me and neither of us are quite sure what a fair price is for the work.

Any ideas?

NB: He is only doing the porting not fully rebuilding the head.

Not being funny Rob, but does the person porting the head know what he's doing?

I'd have thought if he'd done some before he'd know how long it takes and what consumables are needed. It's then a simple sum of price per hour x number of hours + consumables.

I'd ask how long it'll take then decide on what to pay him per hour (£10 for mates rates maybe)

The chap in quest knows his stuff and his heads produce results, however in all the years I've known hime he has only done heads for his own cars, hence we're not sure how much is a fair price.

Thanks for the suggestion about working out a price based on the amount of hours involved, it's probably the most sensible way forward.

Definitely not the guy in the face book thread, the chap doing my porting doesn't even have internet & only owns a computer so that he can re-map his ECU.
