If I were to fit late type hubs (8.4" disc type) to my 72 clubman, and 7.9"discs and the appropriate callipers, would the wheels fit inside the wings, without fitting aftermarket arches? I want to have the chrome sill strip and nothing more, as I'm going for a standard look.

Also would 165 tyres fit standard 10"x3.5" steel wheels, and would this handle ok.

thanks, Tom

165 tyres would be too much for 3.5J rims
If you want to go for the non arched look then 4.5J Cooper S std optional rims (dished inwards) as opposed to the reverse rims are the ones to go for

165/70's on 4.5j wheels may need an inner tube, not 100% sure though

165s are the right size for 4.5J rims no inner tube required

After all the late std Cooper 12" rim is only a 4.5J and everybody fits 165s to those with no bother!

I've got 165/70/10 A008s on 4½" Minilites with no inner tubes and I don't need arches - it'd be even better if I had disc spaced wheels instead of drum, but that's the penalty for upgrading the brakes...

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Yeah the "cooper offset" minilites or the 4.5 inch will fit under the arches with discs.

Proper s wheels are $$$. Reverse aren't but your back to square one as they are an inch more offest. Plus clearance behind reverse rims for brakes is very limited. 4.5 inch minilites are the only option on the cheap. I have S discs and 1" spacered drums on the rear with reverse rims and no arches but just a delux strip. They are out a tiny bit but I passed MOT 5 times before someone pulled me on it.
