Is there any advantage in one over the other on a single or triple groove valve/collet ?
I did notice when i rebuilt a friends 1380 engine that the triple groove valves had worn really heavily/very thin around the collet area, so is the single better ?

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Engineering judgment wold tell me 3 grooves are better. Never had problems with either.

I just chose the valves I wanted based on size/availability/design/flow/quality etc, didn't even consider the grooves.

Supposedly, the three grooved typs is considered weaker. I have no idea why. If you're not revving 10000rpm all the time, I wouldn't care at all.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Subarus and LSx engines all use single groove that clamp the valve.

I know my LSx runs about 150lbs seat pressure. Stem is same diam as a Mini valve ( I had 2 ex valves sitting beside each other the other day lol )
The Mini one is so tiny

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

according to most gurus the triple groved ones part company in VERY high reving motors

theres no issues with the single groved ones

gialoflys motor runs triple groved ones with no issues todate though
phil
i must agree that they are prone to more wear on the collets

i personally have never seen any problems with them parting and i have stripped hundreds of standard! heads

i think the main reason is high spring pressures and massive cam lifts with 1.5 rockers on on N/A race motors which kills them

not realy an issue with turbo motors

That's pretty much what i was thinking.
It was a friends 1380, 286 cam, 1.5 rockers, big valve head etc which had serious wear issues on the triple collets. But he did rev it very hard.
I guess either will do for most Turbo applications then.

Cheers guys
