Hello,

I need to take the Cobra to the DLVA inspection centre in Newbury on Tuesday the 5th of Feb - Can anyone help - I'm not able to drive a trailer (stupid laws for young people) so I'd need a trailer + driver..

Cheers guys..

Yes you are able to tow a trailer, so long as the TRAIN weight of the combination does not exceed 3.5T, and the gross weight of the towing vehicle is greater than what you are towing.

So in your case, you'll have 2T of Discovery, with 500kg of trailer, and 1T of Cobra on it. Jobs a goodun.

Nope. I passed after 1997, I've towed stuff all over. I even went to look at upgrading to a +E trailer license, discussed it with the instructor, and he said that the above scenario works out OK.

Hopefully this helps:

If you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 you're limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750 kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer doesn't exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. You'll need to pass an additional driving test in B+E if you wish to tow a caravan or trailer combination which exceeds these weight limits.
