paranoia is setting in again!!! i noticed in the rover manual that the pistons on the turbo have a offset gudgeon pin....on my omegas there is no markings for the front and also no noticeable offset .....i phoned omega for info on which way round to fit them and they said that the piston should have no offset pin but a offset dish which points to the front of car,but it hasnt.....help!!! looking from front of car should the 'omega' writing in dish be right way up or upside down

*oh well*

regards mark

I assume they mean the piston dish should be under the spark plug...

That would also follow std piston design ideas too...

the dish is central alex and there doesnt seem to be any offset on the gudgeon pin so in theory it doesnt matter which way round they go...i had photos of the engine which i took while stripping for inspection but they have disapeered, hence the problems/paranoia! i want to build this engine right and once only

I believe the writing stamped on the top should be the right way up when viewed from the front, I had Minisport fit the pistons to the rods, and as the rods were all stamped 1,2,3,4 etc they put them on the right way.

I cant remember 100% if there this way round, ring one of the shops that sell them and they should know

Forgotten more than most ever know

AS far as I remember there were never 1275 pistons with offset piston pins. Standard factory pistons may or may no have FRONT or A marking that should face the front of the engine. Replacement pistons and latest Hepolite pistons (IIRC) don?t have these.

The rods are offset and need to be fitted correctly. Rover manual AKM 6353 that covers also turbo engine does not mention anything about offset pistons.

As for Omega, pistons are symmetrical and can be fitted any way you wish. The dish is symmetrical and has basically no value to fitting direction. The only Omegas with offset dish are MED wedge dish pistons and even these should have the dish under the spark plug. Unless you have a really twisted rod...

So, for appearances sake I usually fit the pistons that they are all fitted the same way. BTW, interesting comment from OMega, did you specify which engine the pistons belong to ?

Hope this helps.
