First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

there will be a little bit, thsi is taken up by the oil

try and measure it with some equipment (feeler gauges will do), i think mine had 0.24mm which was a low tolerence

this is up and down play, not side to side

none

thats in the x direction, i.e. from left to right if the turbo is in the position that it would be when in the car

Did you replace the bearings?

yeh, i did. im worried that the old ones may hav spun in the housing which would obviously make it bigger and the play would be on the outer of the bearing not the inner against the spindle, if that makes sence lol.

as above youls see some radial play, but there should be vertualy none if you pull and push the shaft "in & out"

im confused which way can you have play then... my turbo has slight play on it, not if i push on it but if i wiggle my finger on the shaft it moves a bit side to side i geuss. but i have seen brand new turbos do this also so do you mean no play in and out if you were to push on the shaft?

Pull and push the shaft along its length and you should not have any. (thrust!)

Wiggle it up and down and you will have some. I rebuilt mine on sunday and it had what i would consider loads of play but i put in new bearings and a differant shaft that was not worn so i can only assume they are supposed to be that sloppy!

as nic said, about .2 odd mm for a t2, which to me looks like loads!
