Hi,

i'm at the point where i need to instal the drop gears to get any further with mine engine.
On the Minispares site i was filling my basket but now i'm getting confussed what i will get when i order*oh well*

I want straight cut one's because off the less power loss and it's easier to instal them now then when the engine is build in.
I saw a input gear (c-str240) 24 thooth
a idler with (c-str30A) 30 t
and a primary (c-str124) 24 t
but contaning the last part is a bush that needs to be reamed to size?????. i thought it was ready for instal*surprised*

also i did see a primairy which was described as stronger with only 23 thooth , but i this effects mine final drive ratio*tongue*

Now i finally have got the money to get started but i don't know what to get.

Any advice would be appriciated:)

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

can you not get a 23t input to match the primary and maintain a ratio of 1:1?

the last part comes with the bushes already fitted so they should not need reaming.

If you are buying drop gears the 23 toothinput and primary ones are suposed to be strongest.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

paneermeel, order the minispares 24t drop gear set, TIMKING idler

the 23t kit is just one tooth less on the primary and is VERY loud, ear splitting

24t drop gear kit with the timkin idler, minispares north ask for JIM

the primary may need reaming. This depends on the dimensions of the crank. I have talked with Rich at msn about this before he had the accident. He told me it would always need to be checked!

23t will be louder on the road.
But why should 23t be stronger????

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

that was one of my first questions *happy*

if you get the gear set as mentioned with the timkin idler

it just a case of fitting and getting the right primary gear end float

no reaming, boring, honing or whatever!!! .............. job done!

I dare to correct you benross. it depends on the crank, and the clearance between the bushes in the primary should be checked. They are often right, but not always...

whats are you trying to say? that some cranks diameters can vary? or that the crank wears in this area?

im a shade doubtful either of those would happen as the primary only spins on the crank when the box in neutral or clutch is depressed , i.e. idling or changing gear, plus the bush is miles softer...

im only saying this as i never checked mine and want it to be the case *wink*

I have had one seize on the crank so thats why I talked with Rich about it. Also, about wear on the crank in this location. Ask Sprocket about that. He recently sold a crank with wear on this location (buyer knew). I have seen this before too. So it does happen, and will need to be checked.

Better safe than sorry.
