On the side cover (DRIVERS SIDE, THE ONE WITH THE 4 BOLTS) where the pot joint comes out off, has a leak :( i tighend the first 2 bolts i can get to up abit more, but or course leaks more when engine is warm. so to save me taking alot of stuff apart, drain oil etc etc. could i add some kind of stop leak stuff to sort it ?
I have to drive to car to london soon, so really dont want to be doing all that work right now.. intime i could fix it.

Cheers. :)

Erm, no.

Thats your diff housing end plate. You need to take it off and fit new gasket/sealant to stop the leak.

Any kind of leak-stop to do with oil is a bad idea and a bodge in my eyes, especially on a mini.

are sure its not leaking from the oil seal and running down.

and depends how bad the leak is leave it for now and just use some cheeper oil, at least it will coat the floor pan and stop it from going rusty.

worse thing in the world is to have a mini engine which doesnt leak some sort of oil, as my mate found out because he hates oil leaks, he had to weld up the font floor pan and replace the front subframe as it went rotten in no time.

but seriously though if it is bad then yes it will need fixing but if its just the odd drip then dont worry to much

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I did check that first.
It's coming form the bottom of the diff housing cover.*tongue*
I spose it's about 1/4 of a cup of oil over night.
Ok ill not add that crappy engine oil leak stuff.
And live with for few weeks till i sort the bugger.
Just thought i'd check with u guys.
Alot of thing to take apart to fix it.. guess thats all the fun with having a mini :)
Regards, (The Wanker!!) lol

When you do get round to replacing it make sure you replace the O ring too. *wink*

Ive always used a little RTV sealant on the gasket works a treat! *wink*. I tried wellseal but found it really messy to work with. *oh well*

The O ring sits in a recess around the ball and spring.

Driver's side, the seal plate covers, and holds in place, the gear selector detent tube, ball and spring.
An "O" ring seals this tube/ball/spring to the plate, only a small one, but without the "O" ring (or using an old hard one), it will leak.

Just remember, the gasket that seals the flange to the diff housing, spaces the little extension part of the flange away from the casing where the "O" ring belongs so, unless there is an old hard one there still, if there is nothing, there is actually a gap...
