I thought I should start a thread, to show how the Coupe is coming along at the moment.

All of the rear has been replaced, not quite standard, there is now enough room to fit a turbo behind the engine and it should all be a little bit stiffer than the original design.

I had to replace most of the front bulkhead too.

But now most of the welding has been done (another weekend should do it!), then the tub can be painted and the rebuild can start properly.

I have just been round to have a poke around Tim's GTM and these pictures don't do justice to how much work has been done on the tub so far. It is looking excellent though.

Nice work ! I'm very jealous as my GTM is just parked up in my shed waiting in a line of projects to be finished, (I'll get there eventually)

I've now got all the panels to fit for the rear bulkhead and even have had time to get a coat of primer on the underside of the car. I just need to get the top coat and underseal on by the weekend, so the car can be turned over for the last time.

Would be nice, but I'm not putting any money on it. There are alot of big jobs that need doing (engine rebuild, make a wiring loom etc).

A little update on the Coupe:

Trial fitted the front subframe, so I can sort out how the rack buts up to the tub (GTMs have the rack mounted to the subframe for some reason).

Not much left to do before the primer goes on.

I've had the rear subframe fitted too, but not at the same time else the car seems to want to tip off the stands.

Should get my rear hubs back this week too, which means that I can get the car onto all four wheels.

I might have to invest in some kneeling pads, so I can work on it when it's down there!

I've now got the rear suspension built up and the tub has had a coat of primer. I'm not going to give it a top coat until all of the fitting has been done, then I'll strip it down and paint it.

I've just got a little bit of fitting to do on the rear of the car, so that the rear subframe aligns properly, but other than that the car is going to start to be rebuilt very soon.

So, I suppose I should start thinking about the engine. Or at least nudging Ben H a bit......*tongue*

Have you changed the PCD of the hubs?

I'm toying with the idea at the moment. The metro hubs that I've got on at the moment have been redrilled, but not to the PCD I'm thinking of. I was originally going to use a K series engine and was going to convert to 95.25mm, so I bought some wheels to match. I've started converting one hub and may change over to that, so I can use those wheels and also the studs are alot thicker, which I don't see as a bad thing.

So if anyone has got any metro flanges going spare, then let me know *smiley*

A little bit more of an update. I've got the front suspension on the car finished.

The tub is looking very gold now and is starting to look a bit better.

The engine is getting there too. I've finished making the oil filter take off, for the remote oil filter and have the dizzy blanked off and the trigger wheel fitted, ready for megasquirt, once the engine gets in the car.

The hubs are being modified at the moment, so I will hopefully be able to get the car back onto all four wheels in the next couple of weeks.

Here are a few shots of the gear selector mechanism. It is fairly simple really.

stupid question but does that mean that all the gears are in the same position with the gearstick or are they back to front?

All the gears are where they are in the mini. The only thing that you have to do, is to turn the plate on the bottom on the gear selector through 180 degrees, so that the gate for the reverse is in the right place, because it is now pointing in the opposite direction to the mini selector.

What are you planning on using it on?

I think it has got a better chance than it did to get ready for 2008 *smiley*

I'm having a big push on it at the moment, to try and give myself a fighting chance of getting it ready. I won't stand a fighting chance in my class, but I've set myself a goal of beating the time of my old K3, which was about 15.5sec, that is if it gets there!

You can make the car twin engine, but you wouldn't be able to see past the front engine, as the bonnet is loads lower than on the mini. The whole car is only 43". We struggle to fit the master cylinders in, let alone another engine.

Great looking pickup. Very nice.

How are you mounting your engine? Also remember to change the spring rate of your front springs. We use the high tech approach of drilling some holes in the doughnuts.

Mmmmmmmmm, doughnuts................

Car finally on all four wheels.

And I've started to trial the fit of the bodywork. I need to raise the rear suspension, but it looks like it should fit fairly well.
