way off topic I know but I'm looking for a TT for the wife. I know there are issues with the display screwing up and a few other niggles.

Anyone know of any other issues I should be looking out for?

Cheers

Rob

I've spoken to a few people who said the same but it was the 2WD cars they had driven - is the quattro similar?

She drives an MX5 at the moment which can be a handful if provoked

Shropshire.

Hi, used these a few times on the track and were great fun.

They had a few recalls, info below lifted from another site.

hope this helps.

Mark.

Description:

INSTABILITY AND LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL COULD OCCUR

VIN:

TRU ZZZ 8N Z X1 000 101 TO TRU ZZZ 8N Z X1 026 905, TRU ZZZ 8N Z Y1 000 101 TO TRU ZZZ 8N Z Y1 060 000

Build Date:

September 1998 to December 1999

Numbers:

2828

Defect:

The TT proves to have a relatively narrow handling limit zone if extreme manoeuvres are undertaken at high speed which could lead, in the worst case, to a precise steering response to retain directional control. Instability and loss of directional control could occur. These characteristics have led to some customers objecting to the cars road behaviour. In an attempt to improve customer satisfaction, the cars physical reactions are to be modified so the vehicles behaviour becomes more predictable at the handling limits.

Action:

Likely to be affected vehicles will be recalled for modifications to the suspension settings and the addition of a rear spoiler.

Launch Date:

17 April 2000

Recall:

No. 2 of 2

Recall Ref:

R2001/128

Exact Model:

A3, S3 and TT

Description:

Rear axle ball joints may seize

VIN:

VARIOUS

Build Date:

1st February 1997 to 28th February 2000

Numbers:

4714

Defect:

There is a risk of moisture entering the ball joints of the rear axle which can start corrosion in the joints, ultimately causing the joints to seize.

Action:

Recall affected vehicles and fit modified ball joints.

Launch Date:

12 November 2001

shall i point out one of the fatal TT's had two 17 year old in it and they were white, but then the image of 6 black blokes in a TT is a much better one than two fucking kids splashed out all over whats left of the interior

I think the TT is famous for all its curves, and being inspired by bauhaus or something?? every curve has thought gone into it

I have to agree it does look like the new beetle but it is what she wants and I'm not going to stand in the way when I constantly have to explain another 'project' purchase!

We've found a car in a local sales place. I've got the local Audi specialist looking at it this morning so hopefully I'll do a deal today. Anyone for a 98 MX5??

cheers for all the advice

No pics at the moment.

car is a 98'S, 1.8iS, racing bronze with a factory bodykit. 68k miles, MOT till June. I've now been offered £3500 as a trade-in so anything above that

would have to be paid for and collect from Glasgow before next Tuesday
