At the moment the starter solenoid is just "clicking" tried the spanner on the two terminals, not even a spark.

I assume the battery is actually charged.

Its being jumped off my 4x4 (2.9TD so should be good enough)

If that reading is while the solenoid is being operated and using the same earth point, then your solenoid is chuffed. |

Thats reading with ignition on.

but if you jump across the posts with a spanner and it still doesnt work it cant be the solenoid.

jus put a jump lead straight to the starter motor, just to get it running tht is! |

Think its the starter motor, just whipped it off, going to rebuild it now.
