Right. This summer I will be turboing my mini, I now have pretty much all the parts I need. This will be my first engine build so want to get everything right first time.

I nearly have the spec sorted but just have a couple of questions to finalise it.

Spec.

1275cc standard bore, Turbo pistons - rebuilt - balanced rotating assembly
N/A mg metro cam - if I can source one
std turbo head
vauxhall van intercooler
8- 8.5 psi boost
std t3 with modified elbow
std turbo dizzy - mk1, megajolt mabie added at a later date.

With that little lot I am looking for 105 ish banannas

I am trying to decide what to do about the clutch and gearbox side of things.

The drop gears I may leave standard, If I can afford straight cuts I will.
minispares 4 pin diff.

Will a verto clutch set up just about hang in here? Or shall I not chance it and go for a pre verto set up? The thing is I don't want to balance everyting with the verto flywheel and then throw the balance out by needing to fit a pre-verto set up.

I'm just trying to finalise things in my head now.

Thanks

If you have your crankshaft assembly balanced correctly with the verto clutch assembly , when you change to a pre - verto AP set up you just have to get the new flywheel assembly balanced .

Job done

I thought it is good practice to have the crank and flywheel assembly balanced as one. If that is not the case I may see if the verto set up survives.

If it slips then I will have to go pre-verto and have the flywheel assembly balanced individually then.

Welshdan I only go to uni in Bristol. After spending a large amount of cash restoring the car, I am leaving it safely tucked up in the garage at home - Near salisbury.

The reason I am planning all this now is that I need to strip my spare 1300 engine so my machine man has plenty of time to hone, balance stuff ect. He is busy.

If you have a crankshaft that is perfectly balanced ( zero balanced ) , then you fit a flywheel to it and balance it correctly both are perfectly balanced .

If you then swap the flywheel for another perfectly balanced one , the flywheel assembly will still be perfectly balanced .

Inbalance can be caused if flywheel / clutch / pulley etc is not fitted in exactly the same radial position as the one it was balanced in . This does not normally apply to mini engines as the parts only fit one way .
