So, I'm selling these alloy front plates on ebay, and shifting a limited number, but enough to warrant the effort...

I've sent over 100 around the whole world now, and have had one go missing finally. Trouble is - I'm shipping these with USPS flat-rate envelope - a VERY inexpensive shipping service - but one where i have no tracking; All i have is proof of postage. I also do my labels on-line, and complete a 'SCAN' form which is stamped by USPS when i drop them off. Seller also recieves an email to say item has been accepted for shipping at the post office.

I offer insured shipping as an option, which costs twice what the basic one does (USPS prices, not mine) - hence few peeps ever have this, despite the two warnings on my auction about how i cannot be held accountable for any losses if the buyer chooses not to take the insurance - mainly because I as the seller - will always be able to prove that i shipped it, but cannot prove - or disprove that the buyer ever recieved it.

So this has come as a surprise to me, that after providing all this information to paypal after a buyer claimed they never recieved their item, that paypal found in favout of the buyer. This is the second time paypal has shafted me, the first was as a buyer when they refunded me less than 2% of what i paid for an item from a scamming / loser seller, and now when this is not my fault what so ever.

Yeah - I know the customer is always right, and if they'd found in my favour that there would be a pissed off individual somewhere without a product and $60 down, but instead I'm out of pocket because they scrimped on insurance.

Need to find a way of eliminating paypal. Any ideas? Short term - everyone will now be paying insurance however. Of course, this helps paypal, becuase the more i charge, the more they mak on commision, hence I need to eliminate them.

Set up an online shop which takes payment via credit card and get rid of ebay all together.

ive had the same dave hense my earlier ebay thread

sent several tyres out all brand new, offered postal insurance and non took it up, 6 arrived and one apparently did not although the buyer put a claim in only 8 days after auction end, i sent copies of recipt to paypal and covered every angle and they just gave the money back anyway even though it was a very clear scam
best you can do is leave shit feedback at 60 days

only accept cheques and only ship when the funds have cleared.

worked for me for years.

If it was me..Id have it in big letters, virtually naming the offending buyer, and making a harsher dig at Paypal's dodgy workings.

But you are not alone with paypal. Ive lost money via them too, although smaller amounts.

It happened to me twice with paypal so I refuse to use it anymore - its just not worth it to get ripped by some loser who says he hasnt received what he ordered...

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt... Then it's hilarious!

Touch wood I think I've been lucky with Ebay. Problably just cursed myself.
Dave, I think the postage price with insurance is not alot of money for the plate you sell. It is unique & from your location, very good price.

looking at buying a case for my phone ( i know, geeky lol)

this is whet the seller states:

*UK Buyers - We offer insurance only if you choose RECORDED delivery
*International Buyer - We offer insurance only if you choose SIGNED FOR delivery
*When insurance is taken, item will be replaced FREE of charge if it's damaged or lost in the post
*When insurance is NOT taken, the buyer shall NOT put the responsibility or blame on us. We will provide postal receipt in case there is any dispute on posting

Let this be a warning to everyone. Unless you know the person you're dealing with enough that they won't claim against you, or if the item is pretty much worthless, then ALWAYS add insurance if money has swapped hands via paypal...

if you send an item to person B and if you don't buy tracking and if person B received item but files a claim YOU LOOSE 99 percent of the time....

it can always go the other way also

if you sell someone an engine head, and in the package you put Bricks and you buy tracking and the receiver signs for it... its the receivers LOST....

it can go both ways

Well, we're assuming this person is a scammer... We honestly don't know this. They genuinely might have a thieving postie in their area - who knows????

That is the problem. I don't know. Paypal doesn't know. Only the buyer genuonely knows if they did - or didn't recieve this. And they're saying they didn't. Are they lying? I just don't know.

Like I said - this is a lesson learnt for me - hopefully you guys will also benefit from my experience...

Even if it did get lost, call me a sucker but if I was the buyer I would just take it on the chin and say it was my fault for not using the insured service.

I have been thinking a lot about this lately, in life it's not worth going to all the bother keeping yourself right and doing the right thing by people- you won't get the same treatment back!

It's a shame, you've obviously taken a great deal of time to list and desribe the item properly (unlike the ones that have spelling mistakes, text jargen and capslock on), you've gone to great lengths to offer a good service (with 105 happy customers as a testimony) but still someone takes advantage of this.

Someone might take advantage of this once.... But Karma will come round one way or another. When they lose their job, have their car stolen, get a visit from the taxman, whatver... Now they'll have a reason when they ask "why me???"
