Hi, I want to build a 998 turbo engine to put into my project mini, I will be driving next year and was just wondering if anyone has been insured on a 998 turbo at 17 and what the price is like? I know it goes on where you live aswel but just a rough estimate of what it might be?

Thanks, Robbie

Id say well into the 2k mark.

My first 998 when i was 17 was £1400per annum and that was standard on my mums insurance.

Insurance people are too harsh on young drivers. But i understand why they do it sometimes when Stupid feckers grab their licencse and think they own the road.

You may as well have no insurance then.

My advice is just to have a standard car for a couple of years (unless you're loaded) that's what I did many moons ago. I had a 1.1 Fiesta, drove it like an idiot for 18 months and got away with some very close shaves. They're esssentially death proof, not fast enough.

I insured my 1st mini for £500 when i was 17. It was down as an 850 and had a 1275 engine in it *wink* surely a 998 would cost alot less if it wasnt a turbo (if you catch my drift)

I would strongly advise against this however as i do not condone any unlawful acts.

I would lower your trousers and bend over mate!
They aint gonna be reasonable prices!
Have you thought about insuring it as a second car on ltd mileage and running a cheap s**ter for daily use, may work out cheaper, did for me!

i can insure the car in my name for roughly the same amount if its a 1275 metro engine in there.

Just passed, 998 with twin HS4s (Dont ask why) £1350 from tescos, But i found YES INSURANCE do a pay monthly for 17 year olds (Im sure this is illegal somehow.. But they were happy to take the money) Fully comp, £140 Per Month with £300 Deposit.. Works out £1700 in total.

If you bite the bullet, Pay monthly is easier, But that depends what your income is I suppose! Not a problem for me, as Im an aerospace engineer *wink*

But I cant imagine a Turbo'd 998 is gona double the price on insurance.. OR, have it as Juuust a 998 NA (On the Log) and pray to God each night you dont crash.

Boost?.. Isn't That A Chocolate Bar?

Wow with an engineering degree at 17 and you are still silly enough to think of not telling the insurance company about mods to your car. You might as well have no insurance.

My brother insured his 998 with footman and James (I think) and it was around £700 for a 998, and im sure tha included mods like alloy wheels, exhuast and suspension mods.

Im sure you could get a reasonable quote on a 1275 N/A and they are still reasonably quick. A years NCB makes a hell of a difference as does being 19 as you can get insured with HIC (which are damn cheap). IMO its worth taking out your own policy and building up your NCB. *wink*

my insurance for my 1275 at 19 is 534 pounds with wheels and exhaust declaird, at 17 to be insured on a 1275 was only 900... and the cheepest way to be insured for a young driver is NOT yes thats right NOT on your parents insurace, insure the car in your name and have your mum or dad as the named driver this was £200 cheeper for me. and for a number of people i know so bare that in mind :)

major body modification (was a clubby)

I know it's not what you want to hear, but unless you are willing to pay a ton of cash, it's worth having a shitter for a few years.

Not declaring mods is crazy esp is a heavily modded mini. Nothing to do with not crashing it, just needs you to be pulled by plod once and given a producer and it's game over.

Sorry to bring up this thread again.

£856 for a 998cc turbo'd with post office. thats with 1 years NCB and not including the pass plus i have. Fully comp, SDP&C, 5000 limited mileage, declaring fibre glass panels, re-spray all declared.

Thats very reasonable for a 19 year old, and i havent even built it yet!
