as I have a dump vale and it doe's my head in *wink*
maybe I'm getting old but I could live without the noise *wink*
I'm running around 8psi at the minute *smiley*
the boost will be going up soon though

but if I lose that firkin noisey thing will it make much difference performance wise if I resort to the standard dump valve ? *smiley*

Not sure on the performance front. But if you don't want the noise ,can you fit a recirculating type of value to cut the noise down?

I know they are slightly different in principle but it might be worth investigating.

Too many projects!

I wouldn't buy one from Avonbar even if they sold them.

If you try somewhere that sells stuff for the big power turbos, (cosworths, skylines etc)

Most cars with dumpvalves as standard have recirculating ones (i.e.Nissan 200sx) and people put on 'normal' ones to get more noise.

Try www.tas.uk.com , www.burtonpower.co.uk or www.forgemotorsport.co.uk.

If you can take the embarrasment, go into smiths and check out the adverts in 'max power' or 'fast car'. all the places in there should have them listed.

Check that it'll work ok before you buy though.

Too many projects!

Just don't buy the fast car directory... It's just a bloody jazz mag! Wan't to see what dump valves where on the market and parted with a fiver for it. I should have known better.

The dump valve is the best part of a turbo (oh, and the power).

It's the last noise in the world people expect a Mini to make. I scarred the crap out of a load of people at a bus stop with my Bailey piston one. Great noise, but alas no good for Metro Engines (as the fuel jams the rubber seal on the piston).

Lol
the noise is cool for awhile I guess *wink*
and I agree no one expect's it from a mini *laughing*
but I get people to start playying with me till I change gear *wink*
and they hear that damn noise *indifferent* and back off *laughing*

I think my dump valve may be buggered though as after reading the avonbar site about upto 10 psi on the standard diaphram
I was running more than that on my old engine before it devoloped a slight knock
and at high boost I had a funny banging sort of sound out of the exhaust
which I think might have been to do with the dump valve *oh well*

I have a quiet group a dump valve - it lets off just enough air during gear changes to keep the turbo spinning. Giving better performance.

The big piston dump valves let off too much air for our relativly low boosting cars and can worsen performance.

I personally liek the noise!
