you can get a bearing that fits in the A+ transfer case and fits the shaft on the A series idler. Minispares have them

Carnforth, Lancs

This is the bearing I believe:

The gearbox side will drift in/out and there are various guides on here somewhere for removing the transfer case bearing.

ace! i'm dreading getting the bearings out more than anything!

but it'll be worth it for the reduction in transmission drag & the funky wine!

minispares will have me on the blower for these bearings tomorrow!

I used to have these spacer bearings from minispares. Just check the bearing is tight in the spacer as mine came lose after time dropping into the gear box and wrecking my gearbox, drops, transmission case and gearbox casing. Not saying they are bad just thought i would let you know about my experience!

I was thinking of these too - I have a set of high ratio A drops that I want to use in an Aplus box (simply because I haven't sourced a 2.9 CWP (second hand) yet (and am too tight to buy new!) and the high ratio drops with a 3.44 CWP take me half way there). The photos however, put me off.

Star Mag, was it the inner one (I guess the outer one is trapped even if it is loose) and (if so) did the bearing just slide inwards leaving the sleeve in place or did something else happen?

The bearing slid into the box, leaving the sleeve behind in the gearbox casing. The part of the bearing that held the needle rollers was rather thin and i found this stuck to the sump plug magnet. I do have some pictures but they are too big to upload. I can email them over rod if your interested!

Star Mag, yes interested.
Try rod.sugden@gmail.com (better than my normal email address for large files)
I do wonder about the design, the normal bearing sits against a lip so can't move inwards, so in this case the sleeve sits against the lip but the smaller bearing is just a "tight" fit in the sleeve ??? - why didn't they put a lip at the back of the sleeve (it would obviously have to be a stepped lip so the bearing went as far back as intended (or a shorter bearing) but should be do-able?)
