my name is Darren i live in blackpool Lancashire. ive had my mini van for 18 months and was planing to turbo it , after about 3 months i found one at the right money . its a 1380 turbo engine
thats been modified to use a weber and not a hif44.
(something ide never seen before)
once i had got it home i thought i might of bitten off more than i could chew. LOL
so i put it to the back to the garage while i started my home work
reading books , mags , picking brains and looking around the net.
Then one night after a nice bottle or two of red wine i was looking on ebay (not a good idear i now) i came across a MED F.I.S 1340
that had an eaton 45 supercharger mounted at the frount.
with a buy now price of £****.** (thats just incase the wife has a look)
before i new it i was entering my password on my paypal account.
I decided to have it deliverd to a frends house to stop the wife seeing it. before i could say dont tell her he told my sister in law.
( ba***rd ) all i could do was play dumb..
Now i had to work out how to fit it with without her nowing what i was doing.
after about 2 months my clutch went on the van, giving me a kik up the arse and a reason to have the van of the road ( as i use it for deliverys with my butty shop)
the brains behind the job josh a fellow van owner said he would help me and have it fitted in about a week working on it after work
( for the block of the turbo engin) after all the engin was a plug and play (what could go wrong), it was all there and had just been taken out of a car.
well cut a long story short we had carb problems and a number of other problems. so we decided to get the van booked in at mini sport to have it set up on the rolling road.
so with the A frame we draged it there. when we got there we were told that we should have told them it was a none runner.
after about 3 1/2 hours we were told it would never turn over with the key and run as there was not enough air with all the 90 degree bends . as we got it started and put fuel throu the custom relese valve( working on vacume ) closed causing it to stall.
so we got it started and running without the pipe work connected.
Rob from mini sport told us we needed to take a direct rout from the charger to the carb getting rid of all the bends. What a nice man we had 3 1/2 hours of time for FREE.
So the next day i went to a local fabricators ( without the van, big mistake ) showing hin some pics and some mesurments he told me come back in a week. i went back and he said ill have it done for you next week as hed been to buisy ( while taking a drink of tea and reading the daily sport ) went back and the job was done at a cost of £120. the only problem was the pipe from the charger was about 6" too high and it wasant in line with the plenun chamber.
so out with the A frame and i draged the van to him to show him what the problem was. his responce was come back in a couple of weeks and ill TRY fit you in then. then his partner (an older chap) came in and heard what was going on with in 20 mins hed cut it all to size and told me to come back in the morning.
it was done.... at an extra £30.
so back to mini sport.
(what a good investment this A frames been)
on the roling road it wouldent start ( I now we should have tryed it befor we set of )
We came up with the idear that there was now too mutch air blowing the fuel stoping it from starting.
Rob and an other couple of the mini sport team came up with the ider that the carb needed to be at the front of the charger. so he tunned it to run with the charger pipe conected. At least i would have the wife of my back, after 3 months i had run out of excuses. LOL
so back to the drawing board we set out to mount the carb at the frount of the charger. job done on friday about 8pm all put together. (booked in at mini sport again saturday morning)
tryed to start it.... no chance the fuel was staying in the charger for some reason and not been blown out. all the pipe was bome dry after the charger. so we decided to leave the carb set up at the front and fit another one to the back so we could drive it to mini sport in the morning. started up first time as i pulled of joshes drive way and down his street the noise was just too loud
so after about 1/4 of a mile i turned round and went back to take the carb of the front.. IT WAS FROZEN.. oh sh*t. what could go wrong next i was ready to tourch. it ive jus had enough..
as you all now the time it takes up is unbelivable.. id had enough.
so i canciled mini sport.
then bye chance i came across this web site and spoted a post on my engin on ebay. so i became a member and posted on the same page asking for help. and HELPs what i got just as i was ready for throwing the towel in. i had even been thinking of moving the charge to the back of the engine like the vmax kit.
Now i belive its all down to the carb, the carb that came with it (a turbo carb) was fluding so we took the jet and needle out of it and put them in a standard hif44 i had in the garage.
so now were going to make the turbo carb and try again..
watch this space LOL
can i thank you all for youre help :
