What do you reckon guys?

Not going to be running it all the time, just when i switch off to keep the water circulating (with the fan going).

Thoughts????

I was thinking of the pipe that comes out of my botton hose, through the turbo, and into the far end of the head...

That's a tricky one.

If you just plumbed it in series with the mechanical pump then when you are not using it you will need to pump through it. And if you plumb it in parallel I'm not sure how it would work without some valving.

I'm probably being thick, but I can't see an easy solution, mainly because there is only one exit from the block.

yeah...
Mechanical is fine when working, but new engine seems to heat up after switching off!!!

So, all i need to do is 'move' the coolant, but not at the same time as the mechanical pump.
I've had a look at my Renault booster pump, and it's pretty free flowing, so will not cause an 'obstruction' when not in use...

why not make another exit using the sandwich plate that sits under the thermostat housing ?

you will then have two exits from the head ?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Or run it out the other end of the head and back in the core plug, would this circulate enough?

I.e. like the dry decking hose but with the pump in line?

i say run it below the water level on teh heater circuit. as teh heater matrix impedes flow anyway..

cooling the turbo after a run to let it cool down is a very good idea, it will improve the turbo life for a long time, I would get the water from the rad cold side then in the turbo and in the thermostat hgs,and would use it in parallel with the std water pump even when the engine is running; nice idea dave! yes very good idea , this is how I'll cool my next garrett....

Right Guys,

That is the mod i carried out on my cooling system, and it made a significant difference... It'd be even better if an auxillary rad was fitted in the pipe between head and top hose (as i did for the RR) but i don't have enough space!!!

Anyway, that pipe is always 'under' the head of the water, so an electric booster pump can be fitted into this pipe quite easilly, just above the starter motor for example...
AS regards the pumps, the pipes on these can cause confusion, but easiest way is to imagine it's a miniature turbocharger, and the inlet and outlet are as per a turbo. You obviusly want to make sure you wire it up so it spins the same way as a turbo aswell!!!

I will use a 'timer relay' as commonly found on heated rear screen circuits on modern cars - basically you press a simple 'push' button, the relay latches on, turning on the electric fan and water pump. After 5 minutes, it switches off automatically!!!
Easy!!!
