could do with some help with cooling the 1380 i've just put in my car, it is getting pretty warm without really trying, like more or less 100 deg C!!

i even went out and got a minispares 2 core super cool rad, and it didn't make any difference, when i put the rad on i also took a sandwich plate and fed the heater tap feed from the end of the head into it.

i was hoping it would bypass some of the hot water straight into top hose, but now i am wondering if its causing problems with the flow when the thermostat opens up (thermostat is a 82 deg C)

i have also got rid of the heater to tidy things up, but am now wondering it i need to plumb it back in just to keep the temps down.

i haven't had the car set up yet, and the plugs are showing signs of overheating, so i am not sure if its not getting enough fuel

any ideas? as i am getting fed up of having to go out and get some fresh coolant!!

Good holiday?

Hmm, in the van i had no heater and it was fine, i had 4 1/8" holes in the stat and it was an 82 deg one. Sat about 85/90 all the time even in that hot weather we had.

Fans on right?

Try making it a bit richer.

you set the timing yet? that makes a massive difference, it really does. The van did get a lot hotter until i tweaked it correctly and then it never got hot. Id get it RR'd, i think its setting rather than cooling system capacity.

Also small or large fan pulley?

iain - yeah holiday was good, i'll give a rundown tomorrow at work

i'm readdy for the rolling road tune up when you are mate, get your self ready soon as!!

i've got 6 x 1/8" holes in the stat, the fan is definitely on the right way, and i've tried richening the mixture, also tried the ignition timing in lots of settings all of which don't seem to make a difference.

not exactly sure where the timing needs to be with having the higher CR now, it will be alright to drive over to Mike Barretts, just be nice to have it running cool!

i remember before i had the work done on the head, and putting the roller rockers on it was running really warm because the ignition was too retarded, its definitely not as it still runs warm with the slightest hint of pinking

oh yeah its a large fan pulley, is it worth swapping back to the small pulley?

sparkyunlimited - i did wonder about the airlock but wasn't sure how to determine if it had one, i tried giving the hoses a good squeeze in case there was, but still nothing seems to make a difference

I even replaced the TIM electronic gauge with my old smiths one incase it was just the gauge, but it just creeps right up to the 'H'

Might try another thermostat tomorrow, its a fairly new one, but it still might be goosed!

try it without a stat but you need to put one of them collar things in there instead

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
